The Health Festival “Food for Action” was held with great success!

The Department of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Medical Statistics of the School of Medicine and the School of Physical Education and Sports Science (SEFAA) of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), joined forces with the Municipality of Vari Voula Vouliagmeni, local and national bodies and associations for the implementation of the Health Festival “Food for Action” of NKUA on Sunday 28/9/2025 in Voula. It was a unique experience for all of us.
More than 600 visitors, parents with their children, grandparents with their grandchildren, groups of friends, visited the park of the National Resistance in Voula and celebrated a healthy way of life through their participation in
dancing and team sports, traditional games, skateboarding, classical sports events for young children and musical chairs. The kids planted pots with vegetables and herbs with the encouragement of creating their own vegetable garden at home and follow the traditional Mediterranean diet with the whole family. Everyone learned about healthy eating, regular physical activity and avoidance of sedentary lifestyle through the interactive game PES-VRES and had the opportunity to learn about the importance of reducing food waste. All visitors had the chance to be informed about the “Food for Action” toolkits (https://paxisarkiakaipaidi.gov.gr/ergaleiothikes/) and the National Action against obesity (https://paxisarkiakaipaidi.gov.gr/) and received practical souvenirs with the messages of the action and the toolkits.
The Festival was supported voluntarily and with great enthusiasm by the “Amazons” Sports Club, the Athletic Club “Proteas Voulas”, the Hellenic Pétanque Federation, the Hellenic Skate Federation, athletes from the Recovery & Rehabilitation Branch of Children with Disabilities of Voula (PIKPA Voula) and the NGO “BOROUME”. Faculty and members from the Postgraduate Program “Global Health – Disaster Medicine” of the Medical School of NKUA provided its invaluable support in case of medical emergencies. In addition, a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate students from the School of Medicine and the Department of Physical Education and Sport and Sport Science of the NKUA, as well as students, supported us in the organization and implementations of thw Festival. We thank them for the great support!
The Festival took place in the framework of the National Action against Childhood Obesity, which is implemented by the Ministry of Health and UNICEF, in the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” with funding from the European Union’s NextGenerationEU fund.
