Assist. Professor N. Pantazis lead author of multinational study published in Lancet Oncology
A multicenter, multinational study was published in The Lancet HIV, led by Assistant Professor Nikolaos Pantazis of the Department of Hygiene, Epidemiology, and Medical Statistics, School of Medicine, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). The study investigated weight changes after the initiation of antiretroviral therapy in people living with HIV and the relationship of these changes with specific antiretroviral drugs or classes of antiretrovirals. Unlike previous studies that involved individuals with an unknown duration of HIV infection, the study by Pantazis and colleagues is the first in this field where all participants had a well-estimated date of HIV seroconversion and started therapy within 12 months of seroconversion. The study used data from longitudinal follow-up of 5,698 individuals from clinics in France, Greece, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Canada. The study was conducted as part of the CASCADE collaboration, coordinated by University College London, led by Professor Kholoud Porter, with Greece participating under the leadership of Professor Giota Touloumi from the Department of Hygiene, Epidemiology, and Medical Statistics, School of Medicine, NKUA.
