
Venetia Sofia Velonaki

Venetia Sofia Velonaki, RN, MSc, MML, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Nursing Ethics and Legal Responsibility at the Department of Nursing, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She holds degrees in Nursing from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and in Law from the Democritus University of Thrace. She completed postgraduate studies in Community Nursing at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and in Health Law at the University of Glasgow. She received her PhD from the Department of Nursing, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She has worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University Institute for Education and Research in Health Sciences (IUFRS) and the Department of Medicine and Health in the Community (DUMSC) in Lausanne, Switzerland, and as a researcher in national and European research projects. She has an extensive educational and research background. She is a member of the Research Ethics Committees of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the University of Thessaly, EODY, the Department of Nursing of the University of Athens, and Merimna, a non-profit organization supporting children and families during bereavement and serious illness. She serves as General Secretary of the Hellenic Gerontological and Geriatric Society and of the Panhellenic Scientific Association for Health Literacy. At the Department of Nursing of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, she serves as an academic advisor to students with disabilities and is responsible for the Open Doors initiative. She has a distinguished career in ethics and law in the fields of health and public health.
