{"id":1426,"date":"2023-01-23T14:42:38","date_gmt":"2023-01-23T12:42:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dehems.med.uoa.gr\/pms-epi\/?p=1426"},"modified":"2023-12-05T15:18:44","modified_gmt":"2023-12-05T13:18:44","slug":"biostatistics-in-epidemiologic-research-ii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dehems.med.uoa.gr\/pms-epi\/en\/course-category\/2nd-semester\/biostatistics-in-epidemiologic-research-ii","title":{"rendered":"Biostatistics in Epidemiologic Research II"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Biostatistics in Epidemiologic Research II<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning objectives<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The course is a continuation of the corresponding course of the 1<sup>st<\/sup> semester and has the practical approach of &#8220;hands-on&#8221; practice with the aim to gain experience in the use of the Stata statistical software for biomedical data analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon successful completion of the course the post-graduate students are expected to be able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>comprehend the rationale of analytical statistical methods<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>select the appropriate statistical methodology to address specific research questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>use the Stata statistical software for data entry, management and analysis of data as well as for interpretation of the results.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course content<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The course covers a brief introduction and\/or emphasizes on specific methods of statistical analysis. The following topics are covered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Survival analysis (survival tables, Kaplan-Meier curves, Cox proportional hazards model)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conditional logistic regression<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Poisson regression<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diagnostic tests and Bayes&#8217; theorem<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Special topics such as missing values and data reduction techniques.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All topics are accompanied by the corresponding workshops applying data analysis using the Stata statistical software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course also covers an introduction to specific topics related to the role of statistics in Clinical Trials (e.g., randomization and interim analyses).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, a project is assigned to students (either in groups or individually) involving data analysis using a statistical software as well as interpretation of the findings.
