Dr Elena Riza Epidemiologist- Public Health Specialist holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Dundee, Scotland UK, a doctoral degree (PhD) in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London UK and a Master’s degree in Global Health & Disaster Medicine from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
She also holds a Certificate in Forced Migration from the Refugee Studies Centre- University of Oxford, a Certificate in Health in Humanitarian Crises from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine- University of London and a Certificate in Bioethics from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Bioethics Academy in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University- USA.
She teaches in the compulsory undergraduate modules “Epidemiology- Research methodology” and “Preventive Medicine and Public Health” of the Department as well as in the practical sessions and the corresponding field work. Moreover, she coordinates and teaches in the undergraduate elective module “Occupational Medicine” offered during the spring semester each academic year addressing students in the 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th semesters of their medical studies.
She coordinates, supervises and teaches in the postgraduate Master’s course of the NKUA Medical School “Occupational, Environmental and Pharmaceutical Risk Assessment and Management”. She also teaches Epidemiology, Biomedical Research Methodology, Occupational and Environmental Risk Assessment, Global Health and Health Crises Management in several other postgraduate programmes of the NKUA and other universities and she supervises a large number of dissertations.
She participates in several research projects and public health interventions as well as in humanitarian actions in support of vulnerable population groups.
She has many publications in peer-reviewed journals, she is the author of several book chapters, and she participates regularly in scientific meetings and conferences both in Greece and abroad. She is a fluent speaker in 5 languages, she is a member of the Greek Association of Médecins sans Frontiers (MsF) and she is a reviewer in several scientific journals.
