Vana Sypsa is Professor of Epidemiology and Medical Statistics in the Medical School of the Natioal and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). She graduated from the Department of Mathematics of NKUA, obtained an MSc in Biometry from the University of Reading in UK and a PhD from the Medical School of NKUA. She was trained in the Epidemiology and Control of Infectious Diseases at Imperial College, UK.
She teaches Biostatistics and Epidemiology in undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Her research interests are focused on the epidemiology and mathematical modeling of infectious diseases (hepatitis C, HIV, SARS-CoV-2, hospital-acquired infections, influenza) as well as on interventions among people who inject drugs.
She was President of the International Society for Clinical Biostatistics in 2019-2020 and has served in the Executive Committee for several years (2013-2018). She has been invited as expert by international and european organisations such as WHO/Europe, ECDC, EMCDDA and CDC. She is member of the national scientific committee of experts for COVID-19 in Greece and of the scientific committee of the National Public Health Orgnaisation. She is author/coauthor of more than 158 papers published in peer-reviewed international journals (by November 2022).
